President Donald J. Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates spoke today and agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. This historic diplomatic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East region and is a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of the three leaders and the courage of the United Arab Emirates and Israel to chart a new path that will unlock the great potential in the region. All three countries face many common challenges and will mutually benefit from today’s historic achievement. Delegations from Israel and the United Arab Emirates will meet in the coming weeks to sign bilateral agreements regarding investment, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, healthcare, culture, the environment, the establishment of reciprocal embassies, and other areas of mutual benefit. Opening direct ties between two of the Middle East’s most dynamic societies and advanced economies will transform the region by spurring economic growth, enhancing technological innovation, and forging closer people-to-people relations.
Joint Statement Passed by White House
Countries reaction to the Israel-UAE deal.
Iran: The United Arab Emirates has made a "huge mistake" in reaching a deal toward normalizing ties with Israel, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani in a speech furiously condemning what he called a betrayal by the Gulf state.
Turkey: History and the collective conscience of people in the Middle East will not forget and never forgive the "hypocritical behavior" of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in agreeing to normalize ties with Israel.
Palestine: The UAE decision "was coming" regardless of Israel's annexation plans, according to Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator. This "decision is at the expense of the legitimate Palestinian national rights,"
India: “Deeply appreciate the call from FM HH Abdullah bin Zayed of UAE. Discussed the full normalization of relations between UAE and Israel.
Oman: It backed the normalization of ties between the neighboring United Arab Emirates and Israel, and hoped the move would help achieve a lasting Middle East peace.
Egypt: President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, writing on Twitter, said it aimed to “stop Israel’s annexation of the Palestinian territories” and “achieve prosperity and stability for our region.”
Bahrain: signaled that it too is open to formal ties with Israel, said the UAE had shown “wise leadership” and taken a step “toward the achievement of peace in the Middle East.”
Pakistan: Pakistan on Friday said a US-brokered deal between the United Arab Emirates and Israel to fully normalize their diplomatic relations could have "far-reaching implications", but stressed that its future approach on the issue would be guided by how Palestinians' rights are upheld.
Jordan: Israel and the United Arab Emirates could push forward stalled peace negotiations if it succeeds in prodding Israel to accept a Palestinian state on a land that Israel had occupied in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
Saudi Arabia: It will not follow the United Arab Emirates in establishing diplomatic ties with Israel until the Jewish state has signed an internationally recognized peace accord with the Palestinians.
