Kuala Lumpur, April 15, 2025 — The latest search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which vanished over a decade ago, has been suspended due to adverse weather conditions in the southern Indian Ocean. The operation, led by marine robotics firm Ocean Infinity under a "no find, no fee" agreement with the Malaysian government, is expected to resume at the end of 2025.
In March 2025, Malaysia approved Ocean Infinity's proposal to search a new 15,000-square kilometre area in the southern Indian Ocean. The company stands to earn $70 million if the wreckage is located. This initiative follows previous unsuccessful searches, including a 2018 effort by the same firm.
The current search utilises advanced autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and is informed by recent analyses of satellite and radio transmission data, identifying four specific "hotspots" for focused exploration. Experts believe these technological advancements increase the likelihood of locating the aircraft.
The disappearance of Flight MH370 on March 8, 2014, with 239 people aboard, remains one of aviation's greatest mysteries. Despite the suspension, the Malaysian government and Ocean Infinity have expressed commitment to resuming the search later this year.
